Help keep Charlotte “buzzing” with pollinators

The city is hosting events to keep pollinators and wildflowers beautiful and thriving.

Keep the city “buzzing” as a Bee City USA, a designation the City of Charlotte voted on in 2023.

It’s that time of year – spring cleaning. The Queen City is no different. As a Bee City USA, Charlotte needs your help keeping our gardens beautiful. That’s why the city is hosting two upcoming volunteer days.

  • Tuckaseegee Pollinator Garden Volunteer Day | Wednesday, April 10 | 12-1:30 p.m. | Tuckaseegee Arboretum & Gardens, 701 Tuckaseegee Rd., Charlotte | Free | Install educational plant labels, cut back stems and dead plants, and remove weeds. Registration ends tomorrow.
  • Belmont Pollinator Garden Beautification Day | Friday, April 12 | 9 a.m.-12 p.m.| 700 Parkwood Ave., Charlotte | Free | Plant native perennials and wildflowers, remove weeds, and plant butterfly weed to keep pollinators happy. Registration ends Thursday.

If you can’t attend, there are still ways to conserve habitats. If you have a green thumb, plant your tomatoes when evening temperatures settle in the 50s.

Less mowing increases bees, butterfly, and native plant diversity. By waiting to mow every two weeks, you can increase flower blooms and provide food for pollinators.
