Lace up those sneakers. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care and Control (ACC) is hosting its first-ever fundraiser walk on Saturday, May 24 at Pearl Street Park.
“We are hoping to walk, collectively, 10,600 laps,” Melissa Knicely of ACC told CLTtoday. “The reason that we picked that number is because that’s how many animals came through our doors in 2024.”
City Editor Maria, here. Don’t panic — the laps are three-tenths of a mile. That’s totally doable!
By raising $5 per lap, the Steps for Shelter Pets Walk will help ACC raise $53,000 to support shelter initiatives, like purchasing Kongs, hosting free rabies clinics, and purchasing formula for kittens.
“Every year, it becomes more and more important because our operating budget doesn’t cover all the extra things we do,” said Knicely.
The walk steps off at 8 a.m. and there are plenty of ways to help.
- Register for the walk (and bring your pup)
- Donate to ACC through the Shelter Flex Fund (just note “Steps for Shelter Walk” in the comment section)
There will also be 20+ local vendors, two food trucks, and plenty of adoptable dogs to meet.
