Mooresville will be buzzing on Thursday, Oct. 17 as six musicians will be inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame, honoring artists who’ve made a significant impact on the music world.
The inductees
Among the inducted artists is Tommy Faile, a Charlotte native best known for composing the 1967 hit “Phantom 309” and “The Legend of the Brown Mountain Lights.”
Fellow inductees are:
- Petey Pablo, a Grammy-nominated rapper from Greenville best known for North Carolina’s unofficial anthem “Raise Up.”
- Clarence Avant, a prominent music executive from Greensboro.
- Mary Cardwell Dawson, founder of the National Negro Opera Company from Madison.
- Merge Records, an independent record label based in Durham founded in 1989 by Mac McCaughan and Laura Ballance.
- Bobby Hicks, a 10-time Grammy-winning fiddler from Newton.
How to attend
The induction ceremony will be at the Charles Mack Citizen Center (215 N. Main St., Mooresville) with performances by inductees + a four-course meal. Tickets are $100 and on sale now.
