Eastland Yards taking shape in East Charlotte

The new development will pay homage to the former Eastland Mall while carving out space for new retailers, amenities, and residential spaces.

From a new park and retailers to affordable housing, there’s a lot to keep track of at Eastland Yards — a major development in East Charlotte that should be on your radar. While the redevelopment is happening in phases, here are several projects we’re keeping an eye on:

Living in Eastland

Evoke Living at Eastland Yards opened in November 2024. The 72-unit community for active adults who are 55+ features a mix of market-rate and affordable apartments.

Beyond Evoke, leasing is underway at Solstice at Eastland Yards, a two-building mixed-use apartment complex along Hollyfield Drive — keep scrolling to see what else will be in the space. Developer Saussy Burbank is also actively building 38 homes as part of phase one of the Central Village.

Building business

The City of Charlotte recently approved the subleases for four businesses to open along the ground floor of the Solstice at Eastland Yards apartments:

The retailers will start opening as early as this fall. Half of Solstice’s retail space remains available for subleasing.

Recreation space

No neighborhood is complete without a park. Mecklenburg County broke ground on Eastland Park in October 2025. The four-and-a-half-acre park is expected to open in spring 2027, and will boast a playground, splashpad, and walking trails. It all pays homage to the former Eastland Mall.

Youth sports hub

The City of Charlotte broke ground on Friday, March 6 on the Eastland Sports Complex, a $67 million sports hub. Plans call for six outdoor soccer fields and 10 basketball courts to be managed by the Charlotte Soccer Academy.

Food for thought: The project is expected to generate $169 million for the city, create 500+ jobs, and fill 130,000 hotel rooms annually.

Construction is expected to last 10-14 months, with opening anticipated by late 2028.
