Nearly $1 million offered for new Charlotte art projects

The city is accepting new grant requests from local artists.

Drawn to chase a new project? Or does a recent stroke of genius have you inspired? The City of Charlotte may soon offer a fresh canvas for local artists to create their next masterpiece.

Back to the drawing board
The city’s Arts and Culture Advisory Board is offering nearly $1 million in new grant requests from artists across Charlotte-Mecklenburg County to fund new and upcoming projects that align with the recently approved Charlotte Arts and Culture Plan.

An artist’s touch
A drive through South End or NoDa quickly reveals a strong artistic influence in Queen City culture. Walls and structures citywide display work from Charlotte’s muralists, known for creating both photo-worthy art and spaces dedicated to deeper discussion and change.

Show me the money
The nearly $1 million in new art is made possible through the Opportunity Fund. What’s that? It’s a branch of the Infusion Fund — a public-private partnership combining funds contributed by the city of Charlotte, Foundation For The Carolinas and private donors in a common goal for supporting local arts and cultural organizations.

Sketching the steps
Artists can submit letters of intent (LOIs) between March 6-28. If an artist’s LOI is deemed eligible, they will be invited by email to submit a full proposal with a final proposal budget for further consideration. Grants will be awarded in late June and distributed in July.

A virtual information session is scheduled for Wednesday, March 6, 12-1 p.m. Anyone interested in applying is encouraged to attend or watch the recording that will be posted online.
