Charlotteans will soon retrace the footsteps of heroes when the Tunnel to Towers Foundation hosts its eighth annual tower climb at Bank of America Stadium on Sunday, April 27.
“Patriotism for our heroes who help keep us free, I think it’s a small ask,” said Suzanne Bergen, race director for the Tunnel to Towers Charlotte climb.
The climb was inspired by late FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller who died responding to the terror attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. Siller’s legacy continues today with the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, honoring those in the line of duty. Support includes providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families and by building adapted smart homes for injured veterans and first responders.
This year’s climb in the Queen City will honor four law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty in an attack on April 29, 2024.
“These brave officers gave their lives protecting the citizens of Charlotte,” said Frank Siller, Chairman and CEO of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. “Their sacrifice mirrors the selfless service we saw on Sept. 11, and we are committed to honoring their memory and supporting their families.”
“Our job is to get people to come and have a patriotic morning,” added Bergen, who explained there will also be vendors and veteran support services outside Bank of America Stadium.
Registration for the climb is open. Anyone can register as individuals or teams, with special rates available for first responders and military personnel + all proceeds will support the Tunnel to Towers Foundation’s programs.
