Ever dreamed of exploring the jungles of East Africa or interact with a chimpanzee? Discovery Place Science will debut an immersive exhibition on the legacy of world-renowned primatologist Dr. Jane Goodall.
“Becoming Jane: The Evolution of Dr. Jane Goodall” opens at Discovery Place Science on Saturday, Nov. 16.
Produced in partnership with the National Geographic Society and the Jane Goodall Institute, visitors will follow Dr. Goodall’s life from a young scientist researching chimpanzees in Tanzania to her present role as a conservationist.
“Dr. Goodall has made tremendous strides in understanding wildlife and this exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to learn about her innovative research techniques and passion for nature,” said Emily Dunham, chief campus and experiences officer at the National Geographic Society.
Exhibition highlights include:
- A multi-screen experience introducing Dr. Goodall’s work + encounters with virtual chimpanzees
- A hands-on experience inside a replica of Dr. Goodall’s research tent
- A hologram-like projection of Dr. Goodall who shares her memories living among chimpanzees
- An immersive journey to Tanzania’s Gombe National Park
- Interactive augmented reality (AR) activities where visitors can mimic the vocal skills of a chimpanzee
- Updates on the current state of chimpanzee conservation across Africa
“From reading her hand-written notes to exploring memories from her childhood to a life-sized hologram of Dr. Goodall, visitors will experience her legacy and powerful message of hope firsthand,” said Dunham.
“Becoming Jane” will be open through Sunday, April 20, 2025 + is included with general admission.
