Charlotte Pride, one of the region’s largest LGBTQ+ events, announced its headliners for Saturday, August 17 – Baby Tate, Bob the Drag Queen, and Slayyyter.
Headliners
Charlotte Pride announced three headliners for the festival on Saturday, Aug. 17. Taking the main stage are Baby Tate, Bob the Drag Queen, and Slayyyter. Expect awesome dance moves, laughs, and potentially new music.
“Their incredible talent, unique artistry, and commitment to LGBTQ+ visibility will be the perfect capstone of our August celebration,” said Meredith Thompson, Managing Director of Charlotte Pride.

Parade and Festival
While the parade route has not yet been announced, you can expect Tryon Street to be packed with vendors, at least three stages for performers, a kid zone, food trucks, and more. Pro tip: get ready to collect so much free swag.
During the festival, you can cheer on your favorite local drag performers. If you want to perform, applications for the 2024 Charlotte Pride Drag Pageant are live now. New this year, the pageant combined titled contests, opening to all performers, regardless of gender.
Hundreds of thousands of people attend the Charlotte Pride Parade, watching local businesses and groups with pride.

Admission
Charlotte Pride has always been free to attend and enjoy. The organization offers a VIP experience, featuring a VIP lounge with beer, wine, special activities, and more. Pricing is TBA.
If you plan to walk in the parade with your business, organization, church, etc., you must apply.
Charlotte Pride Week
The Charlotte Pride Parade and Festival are just a portion of the week-long festivities. Charlotte Pride Week features events across the city, highlighting community, film, and culture. It runs Friday, Aug. 9 – Friday, Aug. 16. A list of events is TBA.
Volunteers needed
Every year, the organization needs volunteers and expects 2024’s turnout to be the biggest yet. Be on the lookout for those applications.

The fun kicks off on Tuesday, April 30 at 6 p.m. with the grand opening of the exhibit. Enjoy a barbecue picnic dinner in the outdoor space of The Ultimate Driving Museum and be one of the first visitors to experience the exhibit that features 30 vehicles on display, starting with MINI’s heritage, motorsports, and unique + special editions.
Cause for celebration
This year, MINI will be celebrating 65 years of innovation and unveiling the fourth generation of the model range. Fun fact: While the original Mini is considered an icon of 1960s British popular culture, BMW has owned MINI as a brand for 28 years, and launched the new MINI in 2001.
Mini’s space-saving transverse engine and front-wheel drive layout allowed 80% of the area of the car’s floor pan to be used for passengers and luggage, influencing a generation of car makers.
Charlotte City Council approved the development of a new middle school and housing in south Charlotte. The new development will be on 125 acres of farmland on Tom Short Road. (WCNC)

Wegmans is coming to Charlotte. The supermarket will be in east Ballantyne, less than a half mile from The Bowl at Ballantyne. It’s expected to open in 2026.
Development
Construction is going on now for a new City Hall in Huntersville. The $30 million project is years in the making. The building will be four stories and 50,000 sqft. It’s expected to be completed in November 2025. (Charlotte Business Journal)

Bojangles is flying to the West Coast. The Charlotte-based chain will open 30 locations across Los Angeles over six years. The fried chicken staple opened in Charlotte in 1977. (WCNC)

Dink up. A new pickelball court is coming to Camp North End. Tipsy Pickle will have indoor and outdoor courts, food, drinks, and more. It’s exact opening date is TBA but will be this summer.

A mining permit has been approved for Piedmont Lithium. Leaders say the project would make Gaston County the US leader in the electric vehicle supply chain. The company will undergo a rezoning process + acquire air quality and wastewater permits. (WSOC)

Round of applause. UNC Charlotte landed on U.S. News & World Report’s list of Best Graduate Schools for 2024, snagging 19 top-100 rankings. The university received accolades for its part-time MBA program + College of Health and Human Services’ social work program. (Charlotte Business Journal)

Several people noted spots along Colony Road in SouthPark is a desired spot for bike lanes. We agree.
Sergey L. says: “We need a pedestrian lane at Blakeney Heath Rd. It has the required sidewalk along the road except a small part. Daily there are a lot of joggers, walkers and bikers use that sidewalk and that missing part is really inconvenient.”
