Eating meat-free hasn’t always been easy, but in the Queen City, it’s a piece of (vegan) cake.
Our local food scene is as vibrant as ever, so it’s no surprise there’s a slew of local chefs serving up fresh, vegetarian bites across town. From vegetarian barbecue to scrumptious vegan tacos, here are 30 restaurants serving up meat-free fare in Charlotte.

Olympics
Butler HS alum Cierra Burdick will make her 3x3 basketball team debut today at 11:30 a.m. against Germany. Team USA competes in the Men’s Triathlon, Beach Volleyball, Women’s Rowing, and Cycling BMX Freestyle. You can follow along with Team USA via WCNC’s ongoing Olympics coverage.
State
The North Carolina Lottery Commission approved betting for the Paris Olympics. Analysts warn not every sports book will carry the Games. Since its launch, sports betting has grossed an extra $42 million for the state. (WCNC)
Development
Charlotte Douglas International Airport unveiled two skybridges for departing travelers. The bridges connect the Hourly Deck and terminal as part of the Terminal Lobby Expansion project. The walkways will open on Wednesday.
Travel
Speaking of the airport. American Airlines is bringing one of its biggest aircraft to Charlotte. The Boeing 777-300ER will transport up to 304 passengers on one of three daily flights from CLT to London’s Heathrow Airport starting Nov. 5. (The Charlotte Observer)

$750,000 — The cost to upgrade The Cowfish Sushi Burger Bar in SouthPark. The 6,000-sqft restaurant will close for a few weeks in September and reopen in October. Renovations include a new color palette, lighting, and additional indoor + outdoor seating. (Charlotte Business Journal)

Concord Mills Mall added several new stores to its halls. MINISO, Lacoste Outlet, and Pandora are now open. Four stores opening soon include DTLR and Ice Box Jewelers.

You got served. Team USA has hopes to win gold in the sand at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Before athletes take the world stage, they start serving at home.
Whether you’re new to the sport or want to play in a league, the ball’s in your court. Here are a few leagues offering play around Charlotte:
Adult Leagues Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation | Sign up as a free agent or find a nearby team. Sportslink | Summer registration is open with year-round leagues for every skill level. Stonewall Sports Charlotte | This LGBTQ+ and Ally sports league offers competition and community building.
Remembering the Games in Beijing, 15% of you guessed correctly — Nastia Liukin won the Olympic gymnastics individual all-round gold medal. She scored 63.325 points. Her teammate, Shawn Johnson, took the silver.
As for Gabby Douglas, 46% of you selected the Olympian but she didn’t compete until the London Games in 2012 where she won the all-around gold.
Beach Volleyball is one of my favorite sports to watch and always inspires me to get back on the sand. I’ve played on and off since college and had a great time playing with Stonewall Sports. (That’s me in the pink.)
