New bites, new flavor

New restaurant and life at Queen City Quarter

If you’re looking for a place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, Queen City Quarter will provide. Formerly known as “Epicentre,” the centrally located district is undergoing a major revival.

“I think everyone knew the heyday of the Epicentre’s in the past, so I think one of the metrics of success is the number of businesses coming here,” James LaBar, senior vice president of economic deveopment with Charlotte Center City Partners told WCNC.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the former Epicentre was the place to be. The expansive dining and entertainment district was known to draw concerts (and concert-goers), tourists, diners, and pop-up shops. In 2022, the property owner defaulted on a loan, causing a foreclosure and sparking a re-brand and rebirth of the city’s former jewel.

Fast forward two years, Queen City Quarter has secured several new businesses to the once-thriving district, including three that have opened within the past few months.

Hendrick Motorsports is no longer just legendary — it’s hall of fame worthy.

The Charlotte-based race team is now the focus of a new exhibit at the NASCAR Hall of Fame. “Hendrick Motorsports 40 Years” showcases their in-depth history, which is best known for being the winningest NASCAR Cup Series organization of all-time.

“The NASCAR Hall of Fame represents the pinnacle of our sport,” stated Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “To now have a Hall of Fame exhibit dedicated to our 40th anniversary is incredibly humbling.”

The exhibit — which is on display through May 2025 — highlights their iconic history. This includes 160+ never-before-seen photos, 75+ artifacts, and six original race cars. There will also be numerous video monitors and graphic panels detailing more history.

The NASCAR Hall of Fame is located at 400 E. MLK Blvd. It’s open daily at 10 a.m.

As an NBA + Cleveland Cavaliers fan, I’m not sure there’s anything more American than seeing LeBron James pass it to Steph Curry for a wide open three-pointer. The King to the GOAT for America.
