It’s a slam dunk for Buzz City. The Charlotte Hornets broke ground on its state-of-the-art Novant Health Performance Center, a practice facility expected to draw basketball fans and future players for years to come.

“What you’re about to see is more than $150 million in investment in this community and in partnership with the city,” explained Rick Schnall, Hornets Sports and Entertainment Co-Chairman, at the groundbreaking ceremony.

In March 2024, the City of Charlotte approved $30 million for the project + with the Hornets covering exceeding costs and owning the new practice facility. The deal was part of a larger agreement that keeps the team in Charlotte through at least 2045.

Funded largely by the Hornets, the new building will boast more than 160,000 sqft of training and performance space, administrative offices, and retail space + the Novant Health Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Clinic, that will be open to the public.

The Hornets’ new facility is expected to be open for the 2026-27 NBA season.

Who let the dogs out? On Saturday, March 29, Carolina Ascent FC fans, their pups, and plenty of adoptable dogs will pack American Legion Memorial Stadium for the first-ever Pups at the Pitch event — bringing dog lovers together with organizations ready to match pups to their fur-ever homes.

For Josie Studer, a defender on the team, the evening is personal.

“My parents have always had a massive love for animals, and that trickled on down to me and my sister,” she explained to CLTtoday. “We have six rescue dogs and eight rescued cats. I’m just a huge, avid animal lover.”

The team is partnering with FidoTabby Alert, Social Pet, CMPD Animal Care and Control, and two other rescues to bring adoptable dogs to the stadium.

You don’t need to adopt a dog at the game — you can bring yours to enjoy the evening for free.

Editor’s note: Dogs must be registered in advance. Regular tickets start at $22 + the game kicks off at 7 p.m.
