Today is Independent Bookstore Day, and these Charlotte booksellers are ready to celebrate:

Trope Bookshop, 1516 Lyon Ct.
If you haven’t visited this romance-only bookstore, here’s your sign. The shop is celebrating with an author signing, a food truck, and other special guests.

Park Road Books, 4139 Park Rd.
Providing a literary escape since 1977, this longstanding store will host two author signings + meet the store dog named Yola.

Troubadour Booksellers, 1721 Sardis Rd. N., Ste. 7C
This independent bookshop in South Charlotte is celebrating the day with exclusive merch, special edition signed books, and events.

That’s Novel Books, 330 Camp Rd.
This store was opened by self-proclaimed book nerd, Alyssa Pressler, with the goal to share a love of literacy with the Queen City.

Today is Trails Day — an annual distinction given to the fourth Saturday in April to honor America’s trail systems.

From quick and easy loops around town to drives that take you to fantastic mountain vistas and lush waterfalls, here’s our list to Charlotte’s hiking trails.

One of my favorite places to hike is DuPont State Recreational Forest. A couple of years ago, my wife and I took our dogs for a picnic by Lake Julia — the largest lake in the forest — and it was wonderful.
