Opening
Here’s a sweet update. Seemingly Overzealous, the dairy-free, egg-free, and gluten-free ice cream shop in Charlotte, is opening its Dilworth location on Saturday, June 21 at 12 p.m. Ice cream lovers can enjoy rotating flavors, gumball sprinkle machines, and arcade games, plus, the first 40 guests will receive free “emotional baggage” totes.
Announced
Plaza Midwood is crowing. Painted Rooster, the restaurant taking over the former Zada Jane’s space on Central Avenue, will open Monday, June 23. Come hungry to sample buckets of chicken, salads, and drinks. The restaurant says they have the best ranch in Charlotte — find out for yourself.
Development
Construction is underway on the third and final phase of Village Commons in Wesley Chapel, adding a Publix, restaurant, and additional retail space to the mixed-use development. The development is 25 years in the making — being rezoned in 1999 and opening first in 2004. (Charlotte Business Journal)
Transit
Could more tolls be coming to I-77? The Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization reviewed plans to expand toll lanes and future projects through 2055. Public comments are being expected through July 19. (WCNC)

More than 100 people attended an engagement session about Huntersville’s newest park. Edgewater Farm Park will showcase the site’s rich history in farming + will become the first Mecklenburg County property dedicated to the Farmland Preservation Plan. Community feedback is being requested by the county. (Lake Norman Publications)
Plan Ahead
A dedication ceremony is planned for Saturday, June 21, to remember the 72 people killed aboard Eastern Air Lines Flight 212 in 1974. Engraved bricks will be unveiled at Sullenberger Aviation Museum starting at 10 a.m. This event isfree to attend. (The Charlotte Observer)
