We’re ripe with excitement as Peach Week unfolds across 6AM City’s SC markets — hey, COLAtoday, CHStoday, GVLtoday, and even right here at CLTtoday (shout-out to our SC-based readers) — we’re celebrating all things peaches. Through Saturday, July 19, peach lovers flock to Gaffney, SC for the annual South Carolina Peach Festival. Psst... it’s only an hour southeast of Charlotte.
To celebrate peak peach season, we have the jam on how much crop is harvested, how scientists create the best stone fruit for you, and tasty recipes you can try. Stay tuned — Peach Week has officially arrived.

The Word
“Fridge cigarette.” A snack or drink — most often a Diet Coke — used as an excuse for a short break, akin to a smoke break. If you’re going to join the trend, might as well head to a local farmers market and stock the fridge with some healthy snacks. (Today)

What was the largest concert in the Charlotte area by attendance?
More than 200,000 people poured into Charlotte Motor Speedway for August Jam in 1974.

While diving into the history of The Amp in Ballantyne, we put your concert knowledge to the test. Only 30% of voters correctly guessed that August Jam was the largest concert in Charlotte history. A majority — 51% — thought it was Concert for Carolina, which drew a massive crowd but still didn’t top the 200,000+ who showed up in 1974.
Speaking of August Jam, if you were in Charlotte and attended the festival (or know someone who did), I’d love to know what that experience was like for an upcoming story! Shoot me an email so we can chat!
