The Mecklenburg County Tax Referendum is a go. The one percent sales tax increase is expected to generate $19.4 billion over 30 years for public transportation improvements.
Tech
Corning and Meta broke ground on a $6 billion partnership to expand Corning’s Hickory-area fiber plant, creating 1,000 jobs. The facility will supply fiber for Meta’s AI data centers, boosting North Carolina’s role in the global fiber-optic supply chain and supporting the state’s growing tech and data center hub. (WCNC)

A large mixed-use development may be coming to the South End area. Trident Strategic Partners is looking to rezone 19 acres at 601 W. Summit Ave. The plan is to build in three to four phases over up to 10 years.
