Clear a shelf on that bookcase. The fifth annual Greater Charlotte Book Crawl is back through Friday, April 30. The annual event encourages book lovers to visit 25 independent bookstores across the Queen City.

Here’s how it works:
  • Visit any of the bookstores to pick up a free passport or print your own.
  • Collect a stamp at each bookstore.
  • The more stamps you collect, the more prizes you unlock.
Once all the stamps are collected, submit your passport online by April 30 to win the grand prize, which includes a gift card to each bookstore and Hawthorne’s Pizza.

The annual crawl is running in conjunction with Independent Bookstore Day, happening Saturday, April 25. Psst... here’s a list of local shops to help get you started.

The Buy

Sprucing up the house? Shop fresh rugs and runners that will brighten your home for spring:

🏡 These gorgeous area rugs aren’t just pretty to look at — they’re non-slip, thin enough to fit under doors, and low-pile so dust and dander won’t get trapped.
🚪 Treat the front porch to a 4.7-star rated striped or buffalo check doormat that’s easy to wipe down, vacuum, or throw in the wash.
🌼 Fill the whole room with a vintage floral rug that’s machine washable and complete with non-slip backing.
👟 Add a new look and extra safety to stairs with rubber backed stair treads — just place and go with no adhesive needed.
🛁 Your bath mat has seen a lot of feet — shop a fresh one that’s ultra-absorbent and non-slip for under $20.

Yesterday morning, I had the honor of speaking to Ms. Bills’ fifth-grade class at Billingsville Cotswold Elementary School for their Career Day. We chatted about all things local journalism + some of my favorite topics to cover. They asked so many great questions! What a great first day back in the office.
