On Saturday, May 2, the country will tune in to see “the most exciting two minutes in sports.” The Kentucky Derby is a beloved annual tradition immersed in history, heritage, and pageantry, where the eyes of the world turn to Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.

Fortunately, our friends in Louisville, (Hey, LOUtoday) aren’t the only ones with “Derby Fever.”
People are holding glass drinks containing mint juleps.

A mint julep is a cocktail mixing bourbon, sugar, water, crushed or shaved ice, and fresh mint.

Spring is in full swing, and so are plans for weekend getaways: beaches, mountains, and other familiar escapes.

But for those born to stand out — why go where everyone else is going?

Look no further than Chapel Hill, just a short, scenic ride from Charlotte.

Yes, it’s gorgeous. The azaleas bloom and dogwoods stretch toward the sun. But the real magic is in the rhythm of it all.

🎶 Tune into local sounds

From Dex Fest in June at the Cat’s Cradle to soaking up sounds with the North Carolina Symphony during free summer concerts, you’ll find live music nearly every evening if you know where to look.

🌳 Slow down and stay awhile

Along the way, make the most of your quiet moments with unexpected finds and simple delights.

Sip and stroll through Weaver Street Market with coffee and an almond croissant, or browse vintage and handmade goods in Carrboro’s shops and along Chapel Hill’s sidewalks.

If you were born to stand out, you’ll fit right in.
Let curiosity lead you there
