Tropical Storm Debby is approaching the Charlotte region, bringing strong winds and 4 to 7 inches of rain for parts of the Queen City. Be aware, there are some areas in the city that are prone to flooding.

Neighborhoods and streets situated along several of Charlotte’s vast creeks and greenways are likely to see flooding.

  • Little Sugar Creek — which flows through Dilworth and next to Uptown — has a history of flooding. Take caution around 7th Street, East Boulevard near Queens Road West, Midtown Park at Pearl Park Way, and Cordelia Park.
  • Briar Creek, near Myers Park, flooded earlier this year, prompting water rescues.

Did you know Mecklenburg County also has flood monitoring cameras? There are 40+ active cameras located near creeks and flood-prone areas throughout the city, used to track flooding and rainfall totals.

Reminder: Floodplains are areas along streams or rivers that are likely to experience repeated flooding. Check to see if you’re in a vulnerable area and follow Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management alerts for any flood updates.
