Charlotteans — is it just us or is the summer heat on your mind too?

Through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center, we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect in our city for the remainder of June, July, and August.

Although precise weather conditions cannot be predicted more than a week in advance, we can get close predictions. Here’s a seasonal overview to help you prepare for summer.

By the way, the first day of summer is Thursday, June 20.

Temperature
Coming in hot. This summer, Charlotte has a 40-50% chance of temperatures being higher than than normal.

Precipitation
Raindrops keep falling on my head. Charlotte has a 40-50% chance of seeing higher than average rainfall this summer.

June
June is the first true month of summer in the city, with the average high temperature soaring to 87.4°F and the average low settling around 66.7°F. The arrival of summer also marks the highest average daylight with 14.5 hours a day

July
Charlotte’s summertime continues to shine in July. It’s the hottest month, with temperatures reaching an average high of 90.7°F and an average low of 70.3°F. People tend to enjoy beach vacations or trips to the nearbymountain regions this month.

Pro tip: The least humid month is July, with an average relative humidity of 69%.

August
August is a month with slightly decreasing temperatures and rainfall. The average high temperature remains in the high 80s with 88.7°F, whereas the low temperature records an average of 68.7°F

Pack your umbrella. August is considered Charlotte’s wettest month when the rain falls for 16+ days and typically aggregates up to 2.6 inches of rainfall.
