At just nine years old, Taylor Brice is taking the stage, playing a young Tina Turner, during the show’s return to Blumenthal Arts.

“Proud Mary, keep on burning.” Charlotte native Taylor Brice is ready to welcome the Queen City to laugh, sing, cry, and dance during “TINA - The Tina Turner Musical” at Belk Theater at Blumenthal Arts.

City Editor Maria, here. I got the chance to chat with the young star on the show’s return to Charlotte, and becoming a young queen of rock n’ roll. Without further ado, here are five questions with the young starlet.

Q: How does it feel to play young Tina in this iconic show?
A: It feels like a dream come true. Playing young Tina is such an honor because she was strong, brave, and incredibly talented at a young age. I get to show the beginning of her journey, and that’s really special.

Q: Being from Charlotte, how does it feel to return home and perform in front of your home crowd?
A: It means everything! It’s exciting to perform in my hometown. It feels incredible to look into the audience and see familiar faces, and I want to make them proud.

Q: Do you have a favorite song or piece from the show?
A: I love the song “Proud Mary.” The music is fun and energetic. It’s my favorite because I love the dance that goes along with it.

Q: If you could perform in any show/role at Blumenthal Arts, what would it be and why?
A: I would love to play Annie in Annie. It’s such a classic role, and the songs are so fun to sing. Plus, she’s brave and hopeful just like young Tina, so I think it would be a perfect fit.

Q: What advice would you give to other young Charlotteans looking to follow your example and join a touring show?
A: Believe in yourself and keep practicing! Take every opportunity to learn — whether it’s in dance class, school plays, or just singing at home. Stay focused, work hard, and don’t give up. And most importantly, be kind and stay humble.

“Oh darling, I think it’s gonna work out fine.” Tickets start at $40 for the show running Tuesday, June 10 through Sunday, June 15.
