That’s how many people move to Charlotte every day — a number that aligns with U-Haul’s 2025 growth index, which tracks rentals and moving trends nationwide in the 25 most populous cities in the US, including Charlotte. So, let’s take a look at the biggest numbers and where people are moving from.

The top cities

Charlotte ranked No. 4 on U-Haul’s list of the top growth metros, just behind Dallas, Houston, and Austin, TX. That means more one-way customers moved to the area than those who moved out.

So, where are folks coming from? According to U-Haul’s mid-year migration report, here are the top three metropolitan areas outside our state that people are moving to Charlotte from:

  • Raleigh
  • Greensboro
  • Wilmington
