Charlotte foodies may have been taken by surprise while scrolling Instagram this week — Pizza Peel Plaza Midwood announced its closing the kitchen.

“We are profoundly grateful to all our loyal customers for your support over the years,” the Instagram post read.

The pizza restaurant at 1600 Central Ave. has served hardy 16-inch pies from classic pepperoni toppings to barbecue + buffalo chicken for the last 10 years. Customers have until Saturday, May 11 to savor the last slice from the Plaza Midwood location before the doors close for good.

So, what’s next? The Improper Pig — a restaurant serving North Carolina-style barbecue + fusion flare is moving in. The opening date remains TBA.

It’s not really goodbye. The location at 4422 Colwick Rd. in Cotswold will remain open.
