Charlotte’s job market is getting a major boost. Two companies — Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. (SMBC) and Capital Jobs — announced plans to expand in Uptown, bringing a combined 2,600 new jobs over the next decade.

SMBC is one of Japan’s biggest banks, and plans to open its second US headquarters and invest over $50 million in the Queen City by 2028 + create 2,000 jobs by 2032 — about 1,800 people are anticipated to be hired locally.

Capital Group also announced it will open its East Coast operations hub in Uptown, creating 600 jobs over 12 years and a capital investment of at least $60 million. The company will hire for software, data and AI engineering, marketing, and more.

The announcements come as Charlotte continues to attract employers at a rapid pace. About 157 new residents move to the region each day, helping the city rank among the top metro areas for job growth.
