Charlotte’s job market is getting a major boost. Two companies — Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. (SMBC) and Capital Jobs — announced plans to expand in Uptown, bringing a combined 2,600 new jobs over the next decade.

SMBC is one of Japan’s biggest banks. Plans to open its second US headquarters include investing over $50 million in the Queen City by 2028 and creating 2,000 jobs by 2032. About 1,800 people are anticipated to be hired locally.

Capital Group also announced it will open its East Coast operations hub in Uptown, creating 600 jobs over 12 years and a capital investment of at least $60 million. The company will hire for software, data and AI engineering, marketing, and more.

The announcements come as Charlotte continues to attract employers at a rapid pace. About 157 new residents move to the region each day, helping the city rank among the top metro areas for job growth.
