Uptown and Ballantyne will be filled with the arts these next two weeks. The Charlotte International Arts Festival (CIAF) returns tomorrow, Sept. 13 and runs through Sunday, Sept. 29.
“We had this vision of transforming the city,” said Alana Graber, Blumenthal Arts’ Festival and Special Events Producer. “We brought in all of these amazing international artists. The second year, we made a bigger push to include local performing artists.”

🍻 Prost — it’s Oktoberfest time
Celebrate Oktoberfest in the Queen City
Steinholding, an Oktoberfest tradition, is a competition of strength where competitors hold a beer stein for as long as possible. | Photo via Olde Mecklenburg Brewery
Charlotte is aptly named for Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg. Despite being the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, she also gives us a chance to celebrate her German heritage.
So let’s raise a stein with six Oktoberfest events in the Queen City.
Gilde Oktoberfest | Over three weekends, guests can put their strength to the test with Steinholding contests, keg tapping, food, and German beer.
Lost Worlds Brewing Oktoberfest | This inaugural event will feature German-inspired food, beverages, live music, dancing, games, a Steinholding contest + “Dress for the Fest German” costume contest.
Mecklenburg Oktoberfest | From the minds behind the Taste of Charlotte Festival, visit Truist Field for the Go Jen Go 5K + entertainment, craft beer, shopping, kids’ activities, and food.
The other day, I visited Two Scoops Creamery’s new location at The Alley at Latta Arcade. I got a cup of the “Stew Brew” which was coffee ice cream + a salted caramel swirl and Oreos. Needless to say, I’ll be going back for more.
