Prepare to relax and recharge. Dr. Jenna Morcos is making the final touches on Charlotte’s first salt cave, Salt + Souls in Plaza Midwood.
City Editor Maria, here. I’m feeling pretty refreshed (or should I say salty?), after speaking with Morcos inside the finished Himalayan salt cave. I walked in slightly congested but came out completely clear and feeling great.
Morcos spent 25+ years as a pharmacist. After experiencing her first salt cave in Asheville — hey, AVLtoday — in 2015, she was instantly transformed.
The cave inside Salt + Souls boasts thousands of pounds of salt.

After nearly 10 years revisiting the cave in Asheville and visiting Charlotte-area salt rooms, Morcos was inspired to open her own cave in the Queen City, complete with all her favorite touches — mood lighting, salt-covered walls and flooring, and a tea room.
Salt + Souls currently has pre-open memberships available. Guests can book time in the community cave, private room, or salt booth + add massages. An exact opening date will be announced soon.

🍝 Missing that last bite
Price’s Chicken Coop operated in South End for nearly 60 years. | Photo via WCNC
A few weeks ago, we asked: Which Charlotte restaurant do you miss the most + which meal do you wish was still around?
Piece of cake, right? CLTtoday readers sent us food for thought — let’s stroll down memory lane for local nostalgia.
Price’s Chicken Coop
Readers had much to say about Price’s Chicken Coop, the family-operated restaurant in South End that served fried chicken for 59 years.
Reader Renac remembers the delicious fried chicken dinner. Each plate came with the choice of white or dark meat + sides like coleslaw, hush puppies, and a roll. We heard some love for the Coop on Instagram, too.
Pewter Rose Bistro
The OG Charlotteans will remember this dinner spot that closed in 2013 after nearly 25 years in business. They served innovative menu items like fettuccine with smoked salmon and caviar and chocolate rum cake. Reader Ann L. misses the eclectic atmosphere and reasonable prices.
I still can’t get over how much salt is inside Salt + Souls’ salt cave. I sincerely can’t wait for you all to see it for yourselves. Jenna, thank you so much for sharing your inspiration with me. Stay salty!
