We’re putting together a map of unofficial locations that deserve a historical marker. We can’t wait to show you the finished product, but in the meantime, we thought we’d share a submission:
“Dilworth Artisan Station is a 100-year-old textile manufacturing site... During World War II, that skill of working with nylon and silks came in handy as the women seamstresses were given the task of sewing parachute canopies for the war effort. After the war, the building was slowly utilized by artists and today, the rooms are used as working studios for local creatives.” — Mary K.

Time for movie magic. The Independent Picture House is offering screenings in its brand new 145-seat auditorium today. The theater promotes independent cinema + will host filmmaker Q&As, poetry sessions, theater, improv/comedy, and live music.

Talk about being speedy. Early registration for Around the Crown 10K 2025 sold out fast. The annual race opened 277 spots Wednesday morning and tickets were gone within a minute. Launch Party Pricing starting at $45 begins Saturday, Jan. 11. Next year’s race is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 31.

“We are very blessed for them to be doing this for us.” Mooresville-based Lowe’s teamed up with NC restaurants to provide Thanksgiving dinners this week for Helene-hit families in Boone. In all, 12,000 people received free meals on Tuesday. (WCNC)

The Billy Graham Library welcomes the return of “Christmas at the Library” starting Monday, Dec. 2-Monday, Dec. 23. “Christmas at the Piney Cove” is a new exhibit featuring the Graham family’s preserved Christmas photos, cards, and letters. Reservations are now available.
