šŸ“œ Happy Meck Dec Day

Today marks 250 years since the reported signing of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. The long-debated piece of history declared Charlotte’s independence from British rule at least one year before the US Declaration of Independence.

Can you see the original document? In short, no. The original records were allegedly lost in a fire in 1800. However, the text was published in 1831.

An afternoon at Longview Carolina

Prioritizing personal wellness is easier said than done. But what if you lived in a community designed to make healthy lifestyle choices easy? We recently visited Longview Carolina, a new ā€œagrihoodā€ in Easley, SC designed to do just that.

Here’s what we learned during our private tour of the gated community:

It’s intentional: Longview was developed with Blue Zone principles in mind and is building on the region’s sustainability efforts. There’s an onsite working farm where residents can grow their own food and harvest eggs.

It’s convenient: The community is just 20 minutes from Greenville and Clemson, and minutes from downtown Easley — but the serene neighborhood couldn’t feel farther away from the hustle and bustle.

It’s scenic: It’s hard to describe the natural beauty of this area. We enjoyed taking in the panoramic mountain views of the Upstate from the community’s peak and walking along the wooded trails.
See it to believe it

Lace up those sneakers. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care and Control (ACC) is hosting its first-ever fundraiser walk on Saturday, May 24 at Pearl Street Park.

ā€œWe are hoping to walk, collectively, 10,600 laps,ā€ Melissa Knicely of ACC told CLTtoday. ā€œThe reason that we picked that number is because that’s how many animals came through our doors in 2024.ā€

By raising $5 per lap, the Steps for Shelter Pets Walk will help ACC raise $53,000 to support shelter initiatives, like purchasing Kongs, hosting free rabies clinics, and purchasing formula for kittens.

The walk steps off at 8 a.m. and there are plenty of ways to help.
There will also be 20+ local vendors, two food trucks, and plenty of adoptable dogs to meet.
