Meredith Riggins painted this mural — can you guess which restaurant it is? | Photos via Meredith Riggins
The next time you step inside Dilworth Tasting Room in Plaza Midwood, admire the wallpaper, because it’s not wallpaper. Local artist Meredith Riggins painted the murals inside the popular restaurant last summer, and her work is only beginning, especially as wallpaper grows as a design choice.
“In 2019, when I was pregnant with my first daughter, I was going all in on her nursery and getting really excited about decorating it,” Riggins told CLTtoday. “I was immediately drawn to a wallpaper of lemon trees, and it was just so pretty and idyllic. Needless to say, it was well outside of my price point, so I thought, ‘you know what? I can paint this.’”
Riggins shared her work on a Facebook page, and since then, she has done more than 50 projects across the Charlotte area — home offices, bathrooms, nurseries, utility boxes, and restaurants like Dilworth Tasting Room and the upcoming Mother’s Comfort Food & Cocktails.
The fun doesn’t have to end here. After reading the newsletter, head over to our games page. Games refresh with new challenges every day at 6 a.m. from crossword puzzle to Sudoku to themed word search.
Charlotte has so many creatives! I love meeting local artists and learning about their craft, what inspired them to pick up a paintbrush, and how they’re helping beautify the world. A huge thank you goes to Meredith for allowing me to share her artistry with you.
