Meet Charlotte muralist Meredith Riggins

What started as a project inside her own home turned into a side gig for wallpaper-style murals inside Charlotte homes and restaurants.

The next time you step inside Dilworth Tasting Room in Plaza Midwood, admire the wallpaper, because it’s not wallpaper. Local artist Meredith Riggins painted the murals inside the popular restaurant last summer, and her work is only beginning, especially as wallpaper grows as a design choice.

“In 2019, when I was pregnant with my first daughter, I was going all in on her nursery and getting really excited about decorating it,” Riggins told CLTtoday. “I was immediately drawn to a wallpaper of lemon trees, and it was just so pretty and idyllic. Needless to say, it was well outside of my price point, so I thought, ‘you know what? I can paint this.’”

Riggins shared her work on a Facebook page, and since then, she has done more than 50 projects across the Charlotte area — home offices, bathrooms, nurseries, utility boxes, and restaurants like Dilworth Tasting Room and the upcoming Mother’s Comfort Food & Cocktails.

Pro tip: Keep an eye on our newsletter for when Mother’s announces an opening date.

Interested in a feature wall? Riggins can be booked via email and Instagram.

“I’ve had everything from really abstract geometric patterns to floral chinoiserie designs,” Riggins explained. “Right now, it’s $125 per hour, and that includes all the paint, supplies, and labor.”
