The Charlotte Checkers and City of Charlotte are in talks about a community ice rink at Eastland Yards. The Checkers hope to build at least two full-sized rinks, with one of the rinks for team practices and a rec youth + adult hockey. The move is part of Zawyer Sportsâ ongoing commitment following its acquisition of the Checkers. (Charlotte Business Journal)

Charlotte ranked first as the best-performing retail market in 2025, according to CoStar. The rankings were based on percent of inventory leased, availability rate, market rent growth, change in sales volume, and total return for retail properties. Makes sense, as 157 people move to Charlotte every day.

Congratulations go to LaTresha Wilson, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schoolsâ principal of the year. Principal Wilson was selected from 11 finalists and honored for her work improving Tuckaseegee Elementaryâs performance grade. Watch her surprise. (WCNC)

Binki Cafe, a bubble tea shop in University, closed its doors this week. The family-owned shop did not give a reason for its closure, but thanked its customers on social media. Its location in Winston-Salem is still open. (The Charlotte Observer)

Rawr. The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles issued a new specialty license plate featuring the Acrocanthosaurus, one of the dinosaurs found at the N.C. Museum of Natural Science in Raleigh. Itâs the only plate that was approved this year. (The Charlotte Observer)
