That’s how many people move to Charlotte every day — a number that aligns with U-Haul’s 2025 growth index,which tracks rentals and moving trends nationwide in the 25 most populous cities in the US, including Charlotte. So, let’s take a look at the biggest numbers and where people are moving from.
The top cities
Charlotte ranked No. 4 on U-Haul’s list of the top growth metros, just behind Dallas, Houston, and Austin, TX. That means more one-way customers moved to the area than those who moved out.
The moving trends
So, where are folks coming from? According to U-Haul’s mid-year migration report, here are the top three metropolitan areas outside our state that people are moving to Charlotte from:
Manolo Betancur, owner of Manolo’s Bakery, is opening a new gelato and pastry shop in East Charlotte. The Changemaker Place will be in the same shopping center as the bakery, and serve espresso and other coffee drinks, gelato, and high-end pastries. Doors open Tuesday, Jan. 17. Travel
Avelo Airlines is expanding its presence at Concord-Padgett Regional Airport by adding an extra aircraft and upgrading all three to bigger planes with 189 seats — up from two planes with 149 seats. Bonus: The airline will increase its trips to Albany, NY starting in March. (WCNC)
Announced
Stand-up comic Nikki Glaser, known for Emmy-nominated performances like “The Roast of Tom Brady,” is coming to the Queen City. The comedian will perform at Ovens Auditorium on Friday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. — tickets are on sale.
Transit
Nearly eight miles of South Tryon Street will be resurfaced by 2027. Blythe Brothers Asphalt Co., LLC was awarded a $6 million contract to make improvements to NC 49 between I-485 and the Buster Boyd Bridge near the SC state line. Most of the work will take place overnight — an exact start date is TBA. (WSOC)

Fire House 30, Charlotte’s first all-electric fire station, is ready for service. The $10.3 million station boasts all-electric appliances, houses the city’s first electric fire truck, and a rooftop solar array to offset the building’s power. (WSOC)

It’s the most wonderful time of the year.Queen’s Feast, Charlotte’s restaurant week, returns to local eateries Friday, Jan. 23, through Sunday, Feb. 1. More than 120 restaurants around the area will serve multi-course dining deals, with prix fixe prices ranging from $30 to $55 per person.
