News Notes

Announced

Mr. Worldwide is returning to the Queen City. Pitbull will perform at Truliant Amphitheater on May 20 with special guest, Lil Jon — ticket presales are underway. The international star last performed in Charlotte in 2025 during Lovin’ Life Music Fest.

Development

The historic Manor Theatre may soon be transformed into a mixed-use development featuring retail and apartments. Dallas-based StreetLights Residential, alongside original owner Eastern Federal Corp., proposed the project last week. If rezoning is approved by Charlotte City Council, construction could begin in 2027. (The Charlotte Ledger)

Travel

Charlotte Douglas International Airport will increase parking rates by $3 to $5 starting March 1. The updated pricing is due to rising operational costs and will help the airport invest in safety and upgrades. (WCNC)

Mansion Monday

A new record-breaking condo recently sold for $21 million in Las Vegas, with skyline views of Sin City from within a prestigious country club. Here in Charlotte, the most expensive condo we could find on the market is spectacular, too.

Education

The University of North Carolina at Charlotte launched the National Defense and Intelligence Innovation Institute (NDI3), a program focused on military and workforce development. NDI3 will support research, prototyping, and technology done by the US Army and defense industry partners.

Sports

Is a trade on the horizon for Miles Bridges? Go beyond the clipboard for the biggest stories on the Charlotte Hornets with Locked On’s daily, team-focused podcasts.

Coming Soon

This 5-month-old viral avalanche rescue dog-in-training won’t quite be ready for the slopes in Northern Italy this time around, but could be a hero in four years’ time. The 2026 Winter Olympics start in 18 days — make sure you’re subscribed to keep up with all the CLT-relevant happenings.

On This Day

Today, January 19, is the day Edgar Allan Poe was born in 1809. If it’s been a while since you read “The Raven,” spend the day in Poe-esque fashion and find a dark, quiet, brooding corner at the library.

Did you know? Today is Blue Monday, a day most people find themselves in a post-holiday funk. Co-founder of Derive Health Dr. Jonathan Leake shared a tip with CLTtoday: reframe the day as a reset for mental health and self-care. Consider this your sign to book that yoga class, take a spa day, or visit a local park.
