Transit

NCDOT prepared Charlotte roads with a brine solution ahead of the potential winter storm this weekend. Transportation officials are urging drivers to stay off the roads, as we could see ice and subfreezing temperatures. (WCNC)

History

When did Charlotte last experience an ice storm? In January 2016, accumulations ranged from 0.25 inches to 0.65 inches. But the most destructive ice storm was in December 2002, when half an inch of ice covered the metro area. (WCNC)

Coming Soon

Dozo will welcome its first diners at its new home on East Boulevard starting Thursday, Jan. 29. Expect to order menu favorites like Tonkatsu sandos, crab fried rice, small plates, and sample the new bar program with a focus on sake and Japanese whiskeys.

Announced

Tickets are on sale for the 2026 Truist Championship, where 72 PGA TOUR players will visit Quail Hollow Club May 6-10. A grounds ticket starts at $50 and provides access to tournament grounds and all open-to-the-public venues + competition round tickets start at $75.

Speaking of staying cozy... this weather makes me want to curl up with some soup. Here are a few spots I love:

  • The Workman’s Friend | The tomato soup is a classic — especially when paired with their grilled cheese.
  • Calle Sol Latin Cafe & Cevicheria | The black bean soup reminds me of home — it’s such a comfort food.
  • Jinya | The Tonkotsu Black with the dried seaweed, garlic chips, and seasoned egg hit the spot every time.

The Wrap

I don’t plan on leaving the house this weekend. When the weather is too cold or rainy, you’ll likely catch me sitting by the fire with an oversized blanket, hot chocolate, my dogs nearby, and a sitcom or “Critical Role” playing in the background. Stay safe and warm, everyone! Plus, if you take any cool pictures this weekend, I’d love to see them.
