We want to know how you met the love of your life. | Photo by Alyssa Frost Photography
Every romantic relationship comes with a story, and this Valentine’s Day, we’re sharing yours.
We asked for your meet-cute stories from around the Queen City, and you delivered.
Your memories
“I decided to move to NC to be closer to family. On my way to Winston-Salem, I stopped in Charlotte to visit some old friends. I downloaded Tinder and started talking to this handsome man. After 10 years together and now calling him my husband, I feel I was the luckiest person to have found my soulmate the day I arrived in this new life!” - Joshua S.
“I met my hubby of 49 years at West Mecklenburg High School. Yes, we are Charlotte natives and high school sweethearts. He walked up to my cafeteria table wearing his Air Force ROTC blues, and it was love at first sight. In 10 months, we will celebrate 50 years of marriage but 55 years of being sweethearts.” - Donna K.

Today Is
Friday the 13th, a day that has been long associated with bad luck. We hope it doesn’t impact you. Research shows, however, that superstitions like these definitely impact black cats, who are less likely to be adopted than other felines. Concert
This is what dreams are made of. Pop singer Hilary Duff is bringing her tour to Truliant Amphitheater on Saturday, Aug. 1. Tickets go on sale Friday, Feb. 20 at 10 a.m.
Seasonal
Roses are red, violets are blue… how much will Valentine’s Day florals cost you? The average price of a dozen roses from a florist in North Carolina is $92, according to a new FinanceBuzz study. But if the way to their heart is through their stomach, these local lunch deals will do the trick for way less.
Sports
Take me out to the ballgame. A ribbon cutting is scheduled for today at 3:30 p.m. for the new turf infield at the Richard “Stick” Williams Dream Fields and Education Center. The ribbon cutting will take place before the first pitch of the Queens vs. Navy home opener at 4:05 p.m.
Community
We love our readers — this Valentine’s Day and always. Your thank-you emails pour in each week, often asking how you can support us. In this season of love, consider making a contribution to support our team and power local storytelling.
Feel Good
Speaking of roses... Novant Health Foundation distributed 30,000 bouquets to hospital patients across the Carolinas. The flowers were meant to brighten the days of staff members and patients.

The Improper Pig will open its flagship restaurant in Plaza Midwood on Monday, Feb. 16, and I got a sneak peek. The restaurant boasts barbecue with Asian-inspired flavors and menu items, like the pork rolls, kimchi burger, spicy edamame, and craft cocktails. I tried the pork rolls, pork sandwich, and cobbler — they did not disappoint.
I asked founder Will Bigham what his go-to on the menu was, and he said the no-pig burger — which I plan to have for lunch today.
Enjoy your meal, Charlotte.

The last day to get Reigning Doughnuts is Sunday, Feb. 15. The doughnut window will transform into Olivelli Deli in April, serving sandwiches, chips, and soft-serve ice cream. Reigning Doughnuts is my favorite shop in Charlotte, so I thought I’d write a little love poem:
Roses are red, violets are blue,
Reigning Doughnuts forever, my heart beats for you.
