Your memories

“I am from Orlando, and at 28, I decided to move to NC to be closer to family. On my way to Winston-Salem, I just happened to stop in Charlotte for July 4 weekend to see some old friends who recently moved there. While in NoDa, I downloaded Tinder and decided to just see who was in the area. I just happened to start talking to this handsome Charlotte man, but we didn’t even get to meet because I left in the morning. The next few months were rough because of the hour-and-a-half distance, but after 10 years together and now calling him my husband, I felt I was the luckiest person to have found my soulmate the day I arrived in this new life!” - Joshua S.

“I met my hubby of 49 years at West Mecklenburg High School. Yes, we are Charlotte natives and high school sweethearts. He walked up to my cafeteria table wearing his Air Force ROTC blues, and it was love at first sight. He was barely 16 years old! I was a year ahead of him, but that didn’t stop us from staying together through high school and college before marrying. In 10 months, we will celebrate 50 years of marriage but 55 years of being sweethearts.” - Donna K.

“It was the height of COVID — August 2020. I was online and trying to date after a devastating breakup about 8 months prior. I found my (future) wife’s profile, and we started chatting. We decided to have our first date at Optimist Hall. Unfortunately, I totally forgot about our date. She texted me to ask where I was, and I was so embarrassed. I face-timed her and apologized profusely. Luckily, she gave me a second chance even though I stood her up on our first date.” - Eugene K.

“It was love at first sight for my hubby. I was dating someone living five hours away. Didn’t work out. Hubby pursued me and eventually won! Started dating in December 1986, engaged in February 1987, and married in December 1987! Two kids and three grandchildren, still happily married!” - Chris R.

“I feel our second date at a Charlotte Hornets game really sealed the deal. There’s something electric about the energy at a sporting arena, and being able to share that while still engaging in good conversation, snacks, and drinks can really bring two people together.” - Julia A.

“We met while dancing the night away. He asked to take me home and since I was with friends I said no. If I come with friends, I leave with friends. We met for lunch the following week. We have been together for almost 23 years.” - Anonymous

“We worked together and I would change my work schedule to meet his. I was 16 and he was 20. I had butterflies every time I was around him. We went on our first date on 2/7/86. Next week, we will have been together for 39 years.” - Anonymous

"[We] were co-workers for Piedmont Airlines at CLT Airport, introduced by a mutual friend in 2017. I vowed to never date at work so we remained just friends until I started a new job with American Airlines and moved to Dallas, Texas in 2019. We attempted a long distance relationship in June of 2023 that included lots of travel to beautiful beaches and cities international and domestic, however the distance was killing us both, with him almost reaching retirement with the City of Charlotte and Piedmont and me still focused on growing my career, I made the decision to work on relocating back to Charlotte to be closer to the man I love (and my family) it’s been a long process, but in April, I’ll relocate and continue to build on the love we have for each other.” - Anonymous
