🚗 Your city, your thoughts

Last night, Sustain Charlotte held a public exhibit and reception to showcase more than 20 community-submitted design concepts to reimagine the future of the I-77 South corridor. The event comes as the North Carolina Department of Transportation recently opened a community engagement center to gather feedback on the $3.2 billion project.

Editor Maria, here. Over the past few weeks, I asked for your thoughts about the toll lanes, and responses were split:
  • 50% agree the lanes are needed to ease traffic.
  • 44% believe they’re not necessary.
  • 6% are undecided.
The big theme? You want solutions and neighborhood preservation.

“Make them free.” — Meryle L.

“Add them to I-485 and go around the area.” — Anonymous

“Build with the least neighborhood impact as possible.” — Monica S.

“Build underground for environmental reasons to neighborhoods close by and to protect the integrity of those areas as well.” — Anonymous

I love supporting local organizations, and what better way to do so than to combine food and wine?

Tomorrow, April 15, marks the return of the 38th annual Charlotte Wine + Food Week. Every vintner dinner and auction during CW+FW benefits Charlotte-area charities, like Beds for Kids, Digi-Bridge, Families Forward Charlotte, and Wayfinders. The week of curated wine pairings ends with the Grand Tasting, happening this Saturday, April 18.

The Buy

This No. 1 best-selling jelly tote bag that we’re low-key obsessed with for spring and summer. The tip-proof design keeps your tote upright, but it still folds flat to pack or store. It’s also waterproof, easy to clean, and carry-on approved — hello, beach vacay bag. Grab your favorite color (we like iridescent) and let the compliments pour in.

Don’t worry, I had a helmet and seat belt on while racing on the track.
