The first phase of the new development will have 260+ single-family homes in Charlotte’s west side.

The work begins. Crescent Communities announced the four builders set to develop the first phase of residential space at The River District.

David Weekley Homes, DRB Homes, Saussy Burbank, and Toll Brothers will bring 129 single-family homes and townhomes to Westrow, the much anticipated town center at the 1,400-acre community coming to west Charlotte.

Fun fact: Westrow homes will embody two styles: farm and town. Farm-style homes will use neutral color palettes and wraparound porches whereas town-style homes will boast contemporary features and darker neutral tones.

Construction on model homes is expected to begin this month, with the first homes to be finished by the spring.

“The completion of these land closings brings us closer to delivering a variety of distinctive homes that reflect the unique character and values of The River District,” said Rainer Ficken, Senior Managing Director of The River District.

Back in November, Crescent Communities began construction on NOVEL River District, a 318-unit multifamily development that’s set to open in early 2026. Other projects coming to the district include retail, office, mixed-use space + up to 2,300 single-family homes and 2,350 multifamily units.

The River District will be a unique addition to the Queen City — featuring 30 miles of trails, a two-acre sustainable farm, and the city’s first public riverfront park. Not to mention the partnership in place to preserve land along the Catawba River.

“This community has been thoughtfully designed to embrace the area’s natural beauty, providing residents with a seamless connection to the outdoors,” explained Ficken. “From miles of trails and greenways to the vibrant town center at Westrow, The River District will offer a truly differentiated lifestyle that fosters a deep sense of belonging and balance.”
