Charlotte enters voluntary water restrictions as drought continues

Here’s what the drought means for your lawn, your wallet, and what comes next.

Herons are a common sight at Lake Wylie — but the exposed mud bank isn’t.

Editor Maria, here. Is your lawn looking a little crisp this spring? You’re not imagining it. Drought conditions have returned to Mecklenburg County, prompting Charlotte Water to issue voluntary restrictions across the area.

Right now, you’re being asked to cut back on water use, including:

  • Limiting outdoor watering to two days per week
  • Skipping car washes at home
  • Avoid washing hard surfaces

Don’t fret. Charlotte Water shared conservation tips, plus a few of our easy routine changes:

  • Take shorter showers
  • Turn the water off while brushing your teeth
  • Run full loads in the dishwasher and laundry

Still want to get in the water? Use this list of local indoor pools around or check out ResortPass, where you can book a pool day at hotels around the Queen City.
