How to celebrate Earth Day in Charlotte

In honor of Earth Day, Mecklenburg County is hosting several events where people can learn more about our local environment and help protect it.

Earth Day is just around the corner, and we’ve got ways you can do good for Mother Nature and have fun along the way.

Volunteer opportunities

Earth Day Eve Cleanup | Monday, April 21 | 9 a.m.-12 p.m. | Bette Rae Thomas Recreation Center + Enderly Park | Free | Join a team looking to clean litter from the grounds, streets, and streams of West Charlotte.

Editor’s note: Place 2921 Tuckaseegee Rd. into your GPS and park as directed in the Recreation Center lot.

Earth Day Cleanup | Tuesday, April 22 | 9 a.m.-12 p.m. | Cordelia Park + Little Sugar Creek Greenway | Free | Start Earth Day restoring Mecklenburg County’s natural beauty and wildlife havens.

Editor’s note: Place 650 E. 24th St. into your GPS and park in the lot “above” Cordelia Park Pavilion.

Earth Day donation drive | Tuesday, April 22 | 10 a.m.-1 p.m. | Brixham Park | Join Ballantyne’s decade-long commitment to green-friendly development and business practices by donating clothes, books, computers, phones, and more to Goodwill and Books on the House.

Lawrence Orr Elementary TreeCare | Thursday, April 24 | 10 a.m.-12 p.m. | Lawrence Orr Elementary | Free | Care and nurture trees planted in the canopies of the East Charlotte school.

Elizabeth 8K 2025: Eco Warriors | Saturday, April 26 | 7-11 a.m. | Free | Enjoy fun and camaraderie while keeping the Elizabeth 8k Road Race clean and green + enjoy free coffee from Summit Coffee, biscuits from Biscuit Belly, and volunteer shirts from Recover Brands.

Earth Day Hike | Tuesday, April 22 | 2-3 p.m. | Free | Explore the trails at Reedy Creek Park during this leisurely hike with Park and Recreation staff.

Sustain Charlotte Connects | Tuesday, April 22 | 6-8 p.m. | Sugar Creek Brewing Company | $0-$10 | Join the conversation on the City of Charlotte’s plan for a cleaner future through its Strategic Energy Action Plan (SEAP).
