Vacationers planning to fly out of Charlotte Douglas International Airport be aware — starting today, many American Airlines ticket counters are temporarily relocating as part of the Terminal Lobby Expansion project.
Now through Sunday, July 21, all American ticket counters between Checkpoint C and E will close.
Temporary ticket counters include:
Outside door 2: four kiosks and four ticket counters
Mobile podiums: two dynamic ticket counters set up in available space
Other airlines’ ticket counters may be used as available
Charlotte Douglas plans to deploy additional staff to combat any passenger confusion over American Airlines ticket counters temporarily relocating.

The temporary change may catch travelers off guard and slow them down. That’s why passengers are advised to arrive arrive 2.5 hours prior to domestic flights and 3.5 hours before international flights.
Extra staff will be deployed + additional signage to direct travelers. The self-service kiosks in the lobby will not be affected, nor the American bag drop location.
The changes come as Charlotte Douglas is in the midst of a record-breaking summer travel season. From Memorial Day through the Fourth of July, CLT surpassed last year’s numbers by 14%. Passenger activity is forecasted to remain high through Labor Day, with a continued 13% increase in passengers over last year.
Passengers at Charlotte Douglas International Airport should anticipate long lines at TSA for the duration of the summer travel season.

The Terminal Lobby Expansion is part of a massive renovation project known as Destination CLT. The six-year project is scheduled to be complete in 2025. Travelers can expect to see a terminal transformation, which was built in 1982 to accommodate 2.8 million travelers a year. In 2023, CLT passenger traffic reached a record 53.4 million.
Fun fact: Charlotte Douglas International Airport is ranked among the world’s busiest airports, offering nonstop service to 186 destinations worldwide.

It’s the end of an era in SouthPark. Harper’s Restaurant is closing on Saturday, July 20. The property has been acquired by a bank, leading the property owners to soon demolish the building at 6518 Fairview Rd.
“Along with our team of dedicated and hospitable associates who work with us today and have over the last 37 years in Charlotte, we first and foremost say thank you. We wish we could say this is our decision, but it simply is not,” said Tom Sasser, owner of Burke Hospitality Group. “We are working on a new location for a new iteration of Harper’s, and hope we will be able to share more information soon.”
Harper’s opened its first Charlotte location in 1987 on Woodlawn Road and added the second location on Fairview Road in 1992. For 30+ years, its provided a comfortable atmosphere for guests looking for formal date nights to a casual grill and chill. Diners enjoyed savory American-style menu from chicken supremes to wood-oven pizzas in a timeless wood-and-brick ambiance.
