Ever wanted to take a spontaneous weekend trip, but couldn’t find an affordable option on short notice? Enter:Swiftstay, a home exchange club in Charlotte where guests only pay cleaning costs to spend a weekend away.
How does it work?
Swiftstay is based off of a credit system. Every member starts with three credits (one credit = one night).
Every home is one credit per night — no matter how big or small.
You can travel for three nights before listing your home + you receive more credits once your home is listed. Swiftstay also provides linens, toiletries, and cleaning crew.
Members get .2 credits per night for listing and one credit per night a user books their home.
What’s the cost?
The membership is $300 a year but Swiftstay is waiving the first-year membership fee for folks who apply + get accepted in July, as part of its founding memberships. This means you get to travel for the weekend for the price of the cleaning fee, which ranges $99-$150 per booking.
Whether you’re looking for a weekend away in a new city or a staycation in Charlotte, Swiftstay provides locations in several cities in the Southeast.

Coffee Republic offers more than coffee to Charlotte area
Whether you’re craving a hot coffee or iced latte, this coffee spot has something for everyone. | Photo via Coffee Republic
If you’re anything like this City Editor, sometimes you need a satisfying cup of coffee. I did that and more at Coffee Republic in Cornelius.
Coffee Republic started in 2003 by the Flynn family who were inspired by coffee shops with co-working spaces in London. The first location opened in Huntersville with two levels: a coffee shop downstairs and co-working space upstairs.
The business grew years later to seven other locations expanding out of the Charlotte region, including Rockville, MD and Washington, DC. But the coffee beans are roasted in our backyard — Mooresville.
In addition to roasting 12 varieties of coffee, the shop has its own bakery crafting scratch goods like peanut butter bars, scones, cheesecakes, pies, and vegan/gluten-free items. But what sets them apart? Custom cakes.
A portable handheld fan. The battery-operated mini fan is compact enough to throw in a purse or tote, making it your new best friend for sports events, beach days, and outdoor festivals this summer.
I feel the itch to explore. Is there any place you want to see us visit and write about? For example, how should I spend my day in Davidson or Fort Mill? I’d love to know.
