What’s a “brat summer?”

How to have a “brat summer” in Charlotte

Slime green word salad. Viral TikTok dances. Oh My Soul’s brat-themed celebration. Your Gen Z + Millennial relatives calling you “so brat.”

It’s been a “brat summer” whether you knew it or not, so we’re here to explain what it means and how to get in on the fun before flannels and pumpkin spice lattes take over in a few months.

Released on June 7, British singer Charli xcx’s album “brat” debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard charts. Its 15 tracks examine existential topics like womanhood, family, and insecurity — all with an electric veneer of dance pop partying. In essence, to be a “brat” is to be yourself, flaws and all, while still having fun.

Asked

What does “ate” mean?

No, we don’t mean the past tense of eating. Test your Gen Z lingo by matching trending terms with their definitions.

✨ It’s a mood

If Palm Springs were placed in Charlotte, it would be Mood House. The popular massage and sauna studio opened a second location in Oakhurst and, it’s a vibe.

The studio at Oakhurst Commons (4008 Monroe Rd.) features eight cabana massage suites, three infrared saunas, and a private studio.

Pro tip: This is the same business park where Switchyards opened its second co-working space + where The Health Club will be opening in late 2024.

City Editor Maria, here. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting Mood House + the infrared sauna. The team really makes you feel comfortable whether it’s your first massage or if you’re a regular.

“If you’re new to massage, I know that can be really intimidating,” added Wilson. “We’ll guide you through every step and we’ll make sure you’re with the right fit for therapists.”

Will there be a third location? Only time will tell.
