  • UNC Charlotte launched a Hurricane Relief Fund to benefit the schools impacted by Helene. Head Football Coach Biff Poggi and Assistant Head Football Coach Jon Jacobson have pledged to match all donations raised up to a total of $50,000.
Closed
  • The Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway is closed throughout North Carolina in the aftermath of Helene. The closure stretches from milepost 271 near the Great Smoky Mountains to 469 at the Virginia state line. There is no date for reopening any parts of the road. (WCNC)
Development
  • The Mooresville Board of Commissioners will meet Monday to discuss potentially bringing 180+ single-family homes across a 65-acre site along Shearers Road. Local developer Mattamy Homes plans to begin sales at “Lanterna” in late 2026. (Charlotte Business Journal)

  • Get ready to pig out and cheer on the Panthers at the Carolina BBQ Festival’s Fall Pig Pickin. Visitors can expect a whole hog barbecue buffet Sunday, Oct. 6 from 12-4 p.m. at Sweet Lew’s BBQ. Tickets are $35.

    With Charlotte constantly growing and announcing plans like The River District, The Iron District, and a new residential complex at Camp North End, we figured it was time to talk about the cost of planting roots in the Queen City.

    The median household income in Mecklenburg County is $79,000, according to the US Census Bureau. North Carolina is 39th in the country for median income at ~$67,000 per household.

    The overall cost of living in Charlotte is higher than the rest of the state and the national average.

    In Charlotte, the cost of healthcare, groceries, and transportation is lower compared to other parts of the state + the US. Meanwhile, the cost of housing and miscellaneous expenses in the city have higher average costs than other North Carolina cities and the country overall.
