🧱 One brick at a time

A rendering of several apartment complexes surrounding a park.
Eastland Yards is expected to have apartments, retail, and a park when it’s fully constructed. | Rendering via Crosland Southeas
From a new park and retailers to affordable housing, there’s a lot to keep track of at Eastland Yards — a major development in East Charlotte that should be on your radar. While the redevelopment is happening in phases, here are several projects we’re keeping an eye on:

Living in Eastland

Evoke Living at Eastland Yards, a 55+ community for active adults with 72 units, opened in November 2024.

Beyond Evoke, leasing is underway at Solstice at Eastland Yards, a two-building mixed-use apartment complex along Hollyfield Drive. Developer Saussy Burbank is also actively building 38 homes as part of phase one of the Central Village.

Building business

The City of Charlotte recently approved the subleases for four businesses to open along the ground floor of the Solstice at Eastland Yards apartments:
The retailers will start opening as early as this fall.
There's a park, too

Post of the Day

A gif of monks walking through a city, collecting flowers from bystanders.

Editor Maria, here. Yesterday, I watched as dozens of people lined The Plaza as Buddhist monks walked through Plaza Midwood during their Walk for Peace. Strangers cried and hugged, peace was offered, and everyone left feeling uplifted. It was a moment I’ll never forget.

The monks are walking to Washington, DC, with stops in Greensboro, Raleigh, and Richmond — follow their journey.

The Wrap

Tomorrow, I’m heading to Durham to compete in an axe throwing tournament, where the winners get a bid to the international competition in Canada. Some of the country’s top throwers will be there, and while I don’t expect to place, I’m just thrilled to be a part of it. Axe throwing has been such a rewarding hobby and sport. Wish me luck!
