Charlotte chef named city’s only 2026 James Beard Semifinalist

Chef Robin Anthony was the only chef in the Queen City to secure a nomination by the James Beard Awards as one of the best chefs in the Southeast.

Charlotte’s dining scene is back in the national spotlight. Chef Robin Anthony of Omakase by Prime Fish and Prime Fish Cellar has been named a James Beard Semifinalist in the Best Chef: Southeast category.

“This recognition belongs to my team — our chefs, managers, sommeliers, and the entire Prime Fish team — who show up every day with discipline, humility, and pride in our craft,” Chef Anthony told CLTtoday.

Last year, the Queen City received three James Beard nominations but no wins. We’re hoping this changes, as several Charlotte restaurants recently joined the MICHELIN map, including Omakase by Prime Fish and Prime Fish Cellar.

Finalists will be announced on Tuesday, March 31, and winners will be celebrated during a Monday, June 15 ceremony in Chicago. Psst... there are plenty more nominated restaurants worth taking a short road trip for, including several in Asheville and Raleigh — check out the full list.
