News Notes

Festival

Tickets to the second Fyre Festival, “Fyre 2,” went on sale earlier this week. According to the website, a $1,400+ ticket will get you access to a currently unannounced lineup of musical artists + activities like extreme sports and wellness events — or, you could play it safe and just grab tickets to Lovin’ Life Music Fest.

Development

2.4 million. That’s the number of hotel rooms currently under construction across the world — with 6,378 hotel projects in development in the US. But who needs new when you’ve got The Dunhill?

Drink

Starbucks will cut 13 drinks from its offerings next week, with plans to shrink its menu by 30% by September. If you were faithful to the Chocolate Cookie Crumble Crème Frappuccino (say that five times fast), find your fix at a local coffee shop instead. (WCNC)

The Word

Telephobia. It’s a word to describe the fear some people — primarily Generation Z — have of making or getting phone calls. If your friend would prefer the written word over a call, send them this newsletter as a subtle message that you’d like to hang out this weekend. (CNBC)

Sports

The Hornets set a new NBA record for the worst three-game losing stretch in history, dropping those contests by a combined 131 points. How will the team go up from here? Go beyond the scoreboard for the biggest stories on the Charlotte Hornets with Locked On’s daily, team-focused podcasts.

We all need a staycation or a trip to a different city from time to time. Whether you’re a Charlottean feeling a little cooped up or a visitor looking for a special Queen City experience, picking the perfect home away from home is crucial.

We went looking for unique lodgings around town that showcase our city’s energetic spirit. So choose your ideal digs, pack your bags, and get ready for a memorable getaway.

Cabin fever

The Carolina Treehouse | Derita/Statesville
Our childhood dreams are coming true with this one. Stay in your very own treehouse that overlooks a private pond for a peaceful getaway.

Luxe lodging

The Ivey’s Hotel | Uptown
If it’s good enough for Kendall Jenner + Grumpy Cat, it’s good enough for us. Step into your Parisian Charlotte suite at this luxury hotel that’s located close to a variety of restaurants and bars. Our favorite part about the spot? The Library — a cozy lounge that’s only open to hotel guests.

I’ll definitely be checking out both Trope Bookshop’s grand opening this weekend + the book fair at OMB. If you see me perusing some titles, don’t be shy, come say hi!
