Rent prices in the Queen City decreased in the last year, according to a recent Redfin study — thanks in part to a boom in apartment construction. The Uptown area alone added ~11,000 apartments over the last four years.

Ballantyne

This year’s 24 Hours of Booty presented by Levine Cancer Institute raised nearly $1.7 million for cancer research and survivors. More than 1,000 people cycled, walked, ran, or rucked through Charlotte’s Myers Park neighborhood last weekend. Mark your calendars, the race returns July 24, 2026.

Civic

The Queen City could be getting a new pro tennis tournament — and a new stadium to match. Councilmember Malcolm Graham will meet next month with Ben Navarro, owner of the Cincinnati and Credit One Charleston Opens, to discuss the Queen City’s potential. The discussion comes as presale registration continues for the second Charlotte Invitational. (Charlotte Business Journal)

Closed

The Bella Ciao, a fast-casual Italian restaurant in Uptown, is now closed. The restaurant posted a sign on its doors, citing economic conditions for the decision to close. It’s TBD on what will replace the restaurant. (The Charlotte Observer)

Closing

The Stylehouse will close its doors tomorrow, July 31. The hair salon in Plaza Midwood operated for two and a half years and has not provided a reason for the closure.

Plan Ahead

Registration opens at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 1 for Le Dîner en Blanc. The Queen City’s biggest and most elegant dinner party takes place Saturday, Sept. 20. All white attire is required, and the party’s location remains a mystery until the last moment.

Shop

South Carolina’s annual Tax Free Weekend kicks off this Friday, Aug. 1, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 3. This means school supplies, clothing, shoes, and computers will be exempt from sales tax. Perfect timing, as students return to the classroom Monday, Aug. 4 in York County. (WCNC)

Speaking of school... Our friends at WCNC are hosting a school supply fundraiser to help local students get off to a great start this year. Monetary donations will be accepted through Monday, Aug. 11, and benefit local students and families through United Way. (WCNC)

Try This

Kick off Pride weekend with a whimsical tour around Uptown, led by Charlotte Rydables and local drag queen, Buff Faye. Ride a unicorn, dinosaur, or piñata while learning about the city’s LGBTQ+ history. The tours run Friday, Aug. 15, through Sunday, Aug. 17, and tickets are $89 per rider.

Sports

Lake Norman Little League All-Stars will represent the Tar Heel State at the Little League World Series Southeast Regional. The team will face West Virginia tomorrow, July 31, at 1 p.m. You can watch the game on ESPN+. (Queen City News)
