Love to walk along South End’s Rail Trail? You’ll need to find an alternate route.

Starting Monday, July 15, the Rail Trail between Tremont Avenue and Remount Road will temporarily close. The City of Charlotte revealed a private developer plans to bring fencing, fresh landscaping, lighting, and new bike racks to this section of the trail.

This area is considered one of the busiest areas in South End — from Stable Hand coffee shop to the popular Sycamore Brewing. South End residents recently told WCNC Charlotte their daily routines will change with the closure.

Signs will be installed to lead walkers to an open portion of the trail. The project is expected to last the next eight weeks. A completion date remains TBD.
