Tepper Sports & Entertainment proposes new indoor music venue

The music venue would be near Bank of America Stadium’s North Gate and would be constructed by 2030.

After hosting sell-out events like Concert for Carolinas, Beyoncé, and Kendrick Lamar, Bank of America Stadium could soon be home to a new indoor music venue. Tepper Sports & Entertainment (TSE) is proposing the project adjacent to BofA Stadium along South Mint Street. Here’s what we know:

Venue proposal

According to TSE’s proposal to the Jobs and Economic Development City Council Committee, the free-standing event venue would seat ~4,400 people and host 80-to-100 shows per year. Food for thought: BofA seats ~74,867, while the nearby Skyla Credit Union Amphitheater holds up to 5,000 people, but only operates in warmer months.

If approved, the music venue would take up two acres of land next to BofA Stadium, and would be completely funded by TSE — an exact cost was not disclosed.

TSE representatives noted the new music venue would be a positive addition to the developing Iron District, and “contribute to a lack of music venues” in that area.

Next steps

For the project to move forward, an adjustment to the ground lease between the city and Tepper Sports is required. Charlotte City Council will consider the proposal during its Monday, Oct. 13 meeting.

If approved, construction could start as early as 2027 and be completed by 2030.

What about upcoming renovations?

TSE is full-steam ahead on the $800 million renovation project for BofA Stadium. Starting in 2026, the first phase of renovations will include updating plumbing and electrical wiring, heating and cooling, and other items unseen by visitors. Phase two, which is slated to start in 2027, will include new seats, exterior upgrades, state-of-the-art sound systems, and video boards. Construction is expected to wrap in 2030.
