The “ghost with the most” returns to Charlotte, and we spoke with a married duo who have been in the show for every visit.

Charlotte, it’s showtime. “Beetlejuice,” the cult-favorite musical, is haunting its way back to Blumenthal Arts in Uptown for the third time. Based on the 1988 film by Tim Burton, fans can expect mischief, comedy, and big musical numbers with a lot of pinstripes.

Jesse and Lexie Sharp — a real-life couple who’ve been part of the show every time it’s come to the Queen City — spoke with CLTtoday about the show’s return.

Editor’s note: their answers were edited for brevity and clarity.

How does it feel to bring “Beetlejuice” back to the Queen City?
We love Charlotte! Terrific downtown, and Blumenthal Arts is a great place to play. It’s always one of our favorite tour stops.

You’ve performed here enough to be honorary Charlotteans — do you have a “we’re back in CLT” tradition?
We love Optimist Hall, and we’ll definitely go back there a couple of times. Lexie is originally from Alabama, so she is always on the lookout for good southern food.

How do you feel the city responds to “Beetlejuice’s” humor and heart?
People come for the nostalgia of the movie, the chaos, and the laughs, but then you see them really connect to the heart of the story. It’s really special to be part of a show that people love.

If you had one free day in Charlotte, where are we most likely to spot you?
We always find ourselves seeking local coffee and restaurants… We’ll start at a coffee shop, maybe end up at a brewery, and get some southern food or barbecue.

Do you have a Charlotte backstage memory or fun fact?
Jesse: I’ve had the same dresser every time I’ve played Charlotte.
Lexie: I’m a swing. That means I cover different roles. Somehow, I have always gone on as Delia for a few shows in Charlotte, and I’m slated to again this time.

Ready for action? “Beetlejuice” runs Tuesday, Sept. 9-Sunday, Sept. 14 at Belk Theatre — tickets start at $40.
